2nd Annual Civil Society Health Forum ends in Accra

Doctors for Right to Health (DRH) participated in the 2nd Annual Civil Society Health Forum which was held in Accra from September 23 - 24, 2009. The two-day forum was under the theme: Reaching the Unreached – the role of Civil Society.

The Forum discussed a wide range of health issues such as National HIV/AIDS Response, Maternal and Neonatal Health, Mental Health, Adolescent Health and the National Health Insurance Scheme. Other issues that were considered were Nutrition, Occupational Health, Health Law, Regulation and Ethics, Traditional Health Practices in Ghana, Private Sector contribution to health, and integrating planning processes at the decentralized level.

The purpose of the Health Forum was to enable Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in the Health Sector to learn, share information and build consensus on pertinent national health issues. The Forum advanced several recommendations for improvement in health delivery which were captured in a communiqué issued on the final day.

The Civil Society Health Forum was organized by the Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health with the support of the Royal Netherlands Embassy and other partners. CSOs from all parts of the country were represented at the Forum.
