DRH attends 4th GCNH Annual General Meeting at Takoradi

DOCTORS FOR RIGHT TO HEALTH (DRH) attended the 4th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health which took place at Takoradi from August 25 – 26, 2009.The two-day meeting provided an opportunity to review the activities of the Coalition over the past year. Important decisions were also taken to guide the organisation in the ensuing year.

Board Chairperson of the Coalition, Dr Cecilia Bentsi, underscored the watchdog role of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs). She said the Coalition was formed principally to advocate for improved welfare for the poor and the underprivileged in society. This could be achieved by ensuring the relevance of public policies, transparency and accountability in public life. The role of the Coalition is also to identify gaps in the health sector and find creative ways to fill these gaps.

The AGM considered how to find resources to sustain the National Coalition and strengthen the capacity of member organizations to be more effective in their operations.
Representatives from the Royal Netherlands Embassy, the Western Regional Administration and the Regional Health Directorate were present at the meeting. Also in attendance were over one hundred and ten (110) representatives of sister non-governmental organizations from all the ten regions of Ghana.
